Friday Five with HYP Communications Director, Hannah Kuntz

HYP- it's Friday again and a beautiful day is ahead of us!  We are back with our next installment of our Friday Five.  Today, meet our Communications Director, Hannah Kuntz.   Her picture says "Cheese" but find out how she really feels about it below!

Name: Hannah Kuntz

HYP Position: Communications Director

Hometown: Summerville, South Carolina

What brought me to Hartsville:  After six months of a long commute from Columbia to Hartsville, I decided to move here to be closer to work.  Now my alarm clock goes off 15 minutes after I would have met my carpool group.  That is glorious.

How long I've been in Hartsville:  a little over a year and a half? I’ve kind of lost track of time.

In real life I…: work in Corporate Human Resources at Sonoco.  I’m fortunate to love what I do and people I work with.

Three things to know about me:

  1.  I’m a mom to a sweet yellow lab named Champ.
  2. I don’t eat anything with cheese.  Yes, that includes pizza.  Yes, I do realize that is weird.
  3.  I went to Clemson for undergrad and the University of South Carolina for graduate school.  Contrary to popular belief, that does not mean you can pull for both schools.  My blood is still and will always be orange.

In my spare time you can find me:  more than likely around Prestwood Lake with my dog, Champ.  He could swim for hours if I let him.

Favorite local hotspot: Byerly Park. I love walking there when the weather is warm and sun is still out in the evening.

Favorite local food: Midnight Rooster’s Black Bean Hummus (especially served with their crostini)

Advice for someone new to town:  Just say yes.  If you are new and someone asks you to go get dinner, a drink, or lunch say yes!  You’ll be amazed at the people you will meet.  We are pretty persistent around here so if you say no, don’t be surprised if you get asked again a couple times after that. Additionally, after saying yes once or twice, don’t be afraid to ask someone you’ve just met to do something as well.   There is no reason to spend time alone here in Hartsville if you don’t want to.

What I love most about this town: I love our downtown area and the community involved with it.  You travel to most “small towns” these days and you’ll find most of their downtown areas are completely empty or abandoned.  Hartsville is filled with lots of local spots whether you’re looking for a gift, new outfit, bottle of wine, or something fresh to eat. I love supporting all of our local spots and that our community is trying to make our downtown area even better.  It’s something very unique these days.

Why I HYP:  For me, It’s really to connect people with each other and the community.  Whether you’re new to town or you have been here for years and you are looking to find someone who has a similar interest or passion, check out an HYP networking event.  You’ll find someone there.
